The Story of a Champion❄️
Here is Mélisa’s story:
" After my first pregnancy, I started exercising and running. I began with short distances of 2 to 3 km, taking walking breaks along the way — I should mention that I’m a former smoker. Then, I gradually started running longer distances, eventually reaching 10 to 12 km several times a week.
I never really felt the need to enter an official race. I lacked the time and motivation, and most of all, I kept telling myself that I didn’t need it, that I wasn’t competing against anyone, and that I already knew my running pace. I didn’t feel like planning an official race and adding it to my schedule. Still, I had always told myself that I should try it at least once. So, I signed up for an official race as soon as they resumed after the pandemic.
Surprisingly, an official race is nothing like a regular run. The excitement and adrenaline are at their highest at the starting line. I was completely in my own intense bubble, and I enjoyed every second of it from start to finish. It’s about managing your thoughts and all those little mental and physical aches throughout the course. It’s seeing the finish line and speeding up even when you think you can’t go any faster.
In reality, it’s not a competition against others, but a competition with yourself. It’s about seeing just how far you can push yourself. I completed my half-marathon well under the time I had set for myself. I was the first one surprised. I will definitely do it again — I’m completely hooked.
To anyone who is hesitant to give it a try, it’s absolutely an experience worth having, no matter the distance. It gives you an incredible sense of accomplishment and pride. I’m very proud of my medal.
My next challenge: the marathon. My first goal will simply be to finish it. " – Mélisa
